I may post about politics, pop culture, or random attempts at parody. ^_^Rebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.comBlogger29125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3911368087387265278.post-587522040343908312008-02-07T12:46:00.000-08:002008-02-07T12:58:04.765-08:00ChangesSo, some of you who still read my blog -- perhaps all 4 of you ;] -- may think I'm slightly bipolar.

In truth, my political beliefs HAVE changed quite a bit over the past few months. I used to be a total Bushite - a very unquestioning "patriot" who would take up for anything her government did. In fact, reading over some of my posts, I can remember sitting down to write thinking How do I take up for Bush here?

Today, I'm very different. I've lost my trust and respect for leaders and their broken promises. I've also lost my desire not to criticize power. Some of you may think I'm going through a "Liberal stage" or have just lost my core values.

But in truth, my political idealogy remains the same; I've just changed the way I trust my leaders to carry it out. I've been sorely disappointed in the Bush Administration and their unfulfilled promises on just about everything. I've further researched a few issues I used to shrug off. And I've realized that no matter what happens, the Constitution should never be out of date.

I hope I can still continue posting and have an active blog and catch up with you, my dear blog friends who I've disappeared from talking to in forever ;] I hope you who used to agree with me can look past the changes in my political idealogy (or perhaps, drivel.) and rationally discuss these things.

To question is patriotic; to rebel, American; to think freely the mark of true liberty.Rebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3911368087387265278.post-20068607240575241352008-01-07T10:42:00.000-08:002008-01-07T10:54:22.945-08:00A question for youWow, my previous posts sounded rather bitter, did they not? xP Fear not. It was supposed to be an attempt at humor... but no matter.
I am back again with a question for you guys. Or rather, a topic to further discuss. There was one comment (thank you JB! ^^) on my last post when I first brought it up, but I want to know what you think of.

--Ron Paul.--

Thoughts? Opinions? Good or bad?

My opinion:
Winston Churchill once said that enemies are a sign of doing something right and standing up for something, and if that applies anywhere, I certainly think it does to Dr. Paul. When I first heard of him, I didn't really take note. He seemed, to me, like one of those RINOs. On further research (and I can't leave out the fact that I live on youtube as a factor in swaying my growing opinion) he began to be the one who made everyone else look like Republicans In Name Only.
I don't agree with him on everything, and frankly, I think it would be foolish to do such for any candidate. But what I DO agree with him on far outweighs what I disagree with him on. I admire his willingness to stand up for what he believes in and speak like a normal person and not a politician. He has been very consistent with his views, and that's saying more than you can about any other Republican or Democrat running.
His policies are often deemed "anti-American," but that's nothing more than hype and propoganda. Have we really gotten to the age in this country where one can't even question what America does without being labeled a traitor? Yes, I love my country! But I also accept that it can do wrong. If we don't accept that, we have nowhere to go but downhill.
I don't have time or energy to go into every political position of Ron Paul's and defend it. If you're reading this, go to Youtube and search Ron Paul. And I'll be happy to debate in comments as well.

I for one am sick and tired of seeing the one genuine candidate being trashed without a fair shot. Wake up America! Ron Paul 2008!Rebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3911368087387265278.post-29711154179100933762007-12-07T10:56:00.000-08:002007-12-07T10:59:19.255-08:00I have a question:Since I don't have time or energy to put into a thoughtful post, I'll ask y'all:

Ron Paul.
Opinions?

:DRebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3911368087387265278.post-69383052887035682792007-11-04T17:00:00.001-08:002007-11-04T17:02:44.383-08:00Golly gee, Fox News is just so professional Let's play pick the mistake from the <strike>tabloid</strike> news site!

Oh wait.

I'm Conservative.

I'm not allowed to speak against Fox.

Shucks.
Rebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3911368087387265278.post-26132055962867629952007-11-04T16:48:00.000-08:002007-11-04T16:56:49.643-08:00Avril is (about as) edgy (as a dull butterknife.)
Oh gawd I love her so much.

Postscript: Yes I linked US Magazine.

Get over it.

Rebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3911368087387265278.post-71634394764544037672007-11-03T15:16:00.000-07:002007-11-04T16:59:47.356-08:00That's lyke, so heartbreaking.

"Because I am in the public eye I feel the need to be a voice of worthy and
important causes whose efforts impact the lives of every person on Earth.
These animals are being brutally and unnecessarily slaughtered – and who
are we to say to they have less of a right to exist than we do.”

A statement released by Heroes star Hayden Panettiere concerning this yes, sad situation in Japan. But it's disgusting, and I frankly don't even want to try to understand such a mindset.

Honoring the victims means *not* bringing up the war on terror and saying "people are dying in Iraq and I'm supposed to feel sorry for 30 people?!" (As I've also seen on forums...)

It also means refraining from the irrestistible urge of voeyerism.
I mean really. Just imagine it happened to YOUR child, your sister, your wife or husband.
And a media outlet just happens to feel the need to run pictures of a dying student.
Would YOU like to turn on the TV and see your daughter/ son the way you'd least like to remember them? I wouldn't.
That doesn't mean shying away from showing the true evil of it all. Show the vigils. Show the empty classrooms. Show the evacuations. Gosh, even show the blood.

But for the sake of decency, give the dead (and their families!) some respect.

....Forget about the shooter.
Was it really neccessary - as my local paper did? - to show huge, full paper spreads of EXACTLY what Cho wanted?
Such pure sensationalism does nothing except bring torment to those who had to see him as he killed, and in a sense, honor the killer.

....But don't turn on his family.
I understand, in a time like this, it's easy to try to lay blame. And there is a point where placing blame is necessary.

How many of you have siblings? Or children? I know to lose my brother would be torture enough, but to have to accept that he was evil enough to kill so many? It's incomprehinsible.
The family has done nothing.
Everyone wants to see the best in their relatives, and really, how many people would think someone they love is capable of this?
Hindsight is 20/20. Do you think they haven't already gone over in their heads over and over what they could have done?
Don't make it worse by placing ignorant blame on those who did nothing.

Be thankful for what you have and stand up for your rights.

Already, some are using this tragedy as an excuse to try to take away 2nd Amendment rights. Don't stand by idly and do nothing! Stand up for your rights.

We will never understand why it happened, what caused it, and what it was like. Don't try to explain what it was like if you weren't there. Don't try to simplify the causes because it wasn't you. And don't try to explain what you don't know.

God Bless VT.Rebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3911368087387265278.post-8931358651083394392007-04-21T21:30:00.000-07:002007-04-21T21:40:56.724-07:00Virginia Tech...Honor the victims... don't be voeyers. I'm still alive, yes. I sure need to update my blog more often.

I don't have much to write about, really.

I did find something my history professor said yesterday very, very funny, though perhaps it's just me.

He was talking about how the trade embargo with Cuba is bad (though he didn't say bad, or wrong, because he's averse to such terms...)

And how an American **rafting** team wasn't allowed to go to Cuba.

Tell me if you find that as funny as I did ;)

♥Rebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3911368087387265278.post-84058339192609599942007-03-07T11:08:00.000-08:002007-03-08T15:59:55.491-08:00Absolutely unbelievableSaudi Kidnap, Rape Victim Sentenced To 90 Lashes For "Crime" Of Being Alone With Unrelated Man

A 19-year-old Saudi woman who was kidnapped, beaten and gang raped by seven men who then took photos of their victim and threatened to kill her, was sentenced under the country's Islamic-based law to 90 lashes for the "crime" of being alone with a man not related to her.

This is just more proof (as if we needed it) that Extreme Islam is an unacceptable system stuck in the dark ages. FrustrationI guess I will whine in this post, ok?

So we got assigned into groups for public speaking class, and how the heck do college students not give a crap about a five point activity?!?!
OK. I feel better now. Really. Being the youngest person in my group, I really don't want to be bossy, but it is coming up in 2 weeks and we haven't done anything! AAAA! Wish me luck on, I need it :)

Oh, and on to another frustration, since I'm in that sort of mood. :) Our Algebra teacher is evil. Yes very evil.
=)Rebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3911368087387265278.post-86269187312083252712007-02-11T11:24:00.000-08:002007-02-11T15:02:38.056-08:00€ommunism and other junkBefore I start this post, I should preface with the fact that my history teacher, "Dr. Clark" is arguably the most awesome teacher I have had yet and I'm not whining.

Now. Last week I got into my very first argument with a teacher! Yes, I know it's hard to believe I held out that long, but like I said, Dr. Clark is cool, and seems to want us to do well in his class, and he helps us with anything we ask for, and he's very approachable, and seems to be impressed that I'm homeschoooled, so I could ignore daily liberal lectures, right?

Yes.
I could.

Until he started talking about Karl Marx.

Now, it could be argued that my strong feelings about Communism come from the fact that my boyfriend is Cuban but! Mary Ann, that is not true. =) I have always gotten more fired up about THAT single issue than any other.

So anyway, we were doing vocabulary for the test early - checking to see if our answers were right so we could score well on the test- like I said, he's awesome.

We were divided up into groups, and one group read their definition of Karl Marx.

"Social activist and father of Communism, he helped imlement social changes that brought justice to workers."

Next was our groups' turn. Before reading my definition for, I think, the Interstate Commerce Act or something, I coughed rather loudly and said "Well, my definition of Marxism was quite different."

Dr. Clark asked, Well, what was yours?

I read "Hard to measure the impact of one whose ideas carried-out were responsible for the death of hundreds of millions, and drove scores of nations into economic ruin."

After snickering and assuring me "It wasn't all Karl, it was corruption of Soviet Russia-"
"-and Cuba" I added helpfully, he said to write it again, focusing more on the idea and the positive changes in the US, than what I had.
I scribbled that Marxism was,

"A simplistic view of a utopian workers' paradise. Although some positive ideas were implemented in the US, reality proved it to be an inherantly flawed and violent system."

Yes. I did raise my hand and ask if he wanted to hear my new definition. Yes. I did read that to the class. It was rather fun, in a scary sort of way.

OK OK. I did end up mentioning Cuba. I couldn't help it. I mean come on...Rebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3911368087387265278.post-71501657205186994952007-02-01T20:44:00.000-08:002007-02-01T20:52:26.424-08:00>_>Ay, vey I'm tired. (And yes, I'm aware I probably misspelled that.)
Well, it rained all day today, or to clarify, mostly just while we were walking to classes. My hair got real interesting let me tell you.

So yeah. I had diet coke for lunch, which was not good, considering algebra followed lunch and there are no locatable restrooms in the whole, entire math building. Yes I know, I prowled around the rooms once and almost got lost ... but anyway. That was like, way too much information. I must be sleepy.

Oh yeah, got a 97 on my history test. Yay!Rebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3911368087387265278.post-68313197716822264202007-01-30T14:44:00.000-08:002007-01-30T14:55:26.702-08:00A boring truth... Maybe I should call this blog that. But no, I'm talking about what happened today. It was a pretty normal day. We had our first test in American History, and it was pretty easy, besides the fact that my handwriting majorly sucks (hey I always type!) and it took me like twice as long to write out the vocabulary part. But besides that it went well.
Our other classes also went well, though I admit I'm a little lost in Algebra - but oh well. The online helps will solve that =)
After class we got ice cream in the student center. How lucky we were that "An Inconvenient Truth" was playing at that very time! ^_^ OK ok it wasn't so bad. Especially since no one was there. Six - count 'em - people were there watching it, including the two sponsors. Hehehe.
But, now that I think of it, I guess it wasn't politics... the thought of 2 hours watching Al Gore speak is pretty scary...Rebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3911368087387265278.post-26902084627618135612007-01-25T15:09:00.000-08:002007-01-25T15:34:58.787-08:00My first speech...So, I'm not going to bore you with a rundown of my whole day. I mean, lots of people go to college. ^_^ So anyway, we had our first speech today. I announced that I was a homeschooler, but no one seemed to care. =) On a lower note, I had to sit through Mr. Clark talking about Margaret Sanger and what a pioneer she was (In a dream world I would've spoken up and said "She was a pioneer for Hitler's ideas too, considering she wanted to sterilize black women and kill children if there were already too many kids in the family!" But this isn't a dream world.)
And... he is for open borders. Another thing I just sat there for.
Aaaaanyway... I don't have anything interesting or random or funny to post. Very tired...

Oh yeah. I had to carry a basketball around half the day because it was my prop for public speaking, and ppl kept thinking I played for the basketball team. Which is funny. Do I look like an athlete? I ask myself. Ah, anyway, maybe next time I'll carry a hockey stick. ^_^

♥♥Rebekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16295002380918992275noreply@blogger.com0
